Nellie's Eyelash Retraction Issue

This morning, my daughter was very upset to discover that Nellie's right eye's eyelashes retracted into her eye! We spoke to CS about this and have decided to bring Nellie with us on our holiday to LA and leave her at AGPLA rather than ship her because we are in Canada and it would take about the same length of time for Nellie to be in the mail. So, do you have any advice as to how to ensure that the Hospital Staff understand they should replace Nellie's eyes only. Also, since Nellie only just came to us in September, they shouldn't charge us, right? It is very upsetting for us to think of leaving Nellie at the hospital and Nellie is worried too, but my daughter is saying it is the right thing to do. She definetly doesn't want Nellie to come home with a new head, nor would she consider exchanging Nellie outright. Has anyone else had the retracting eyelash issue before and what did you do? Thanks! I would call AG and see if they just do the eyes - I think they would replace the head (which I understand you don't want). Also, the guarantee would be through the mail - I'm not sure about going to AGPlace - you might want to ask about that too.

I think they would replace the head too, but I don't know if it would be possible to convince them to replace just the eyes or not. (Nellie is a relatively new doll, so AG would probably consider them all the same.)

How are the eyelashes retracted? If they just got stuck inside but are still attached correctly, maybe tweezers could get them out? Or if they've come off, maybe you can fish them out and reglue them yourself?

Maybe you could fix Nellie's lashes yourself--here's an old thread about replacing lashes. Maybe you could just re-glue hers with a tiny bit of Elmer's glue--and maybe that would save Nellie a trip to the hospital.

You will most likely end up with a new doll. We sent our dear Nellie in after Christmas last year. I was told by a CS that this was a batch issue and very much covered by warranty. They were even willing to send a mailing label if I wanted. We received an altogether new doll even though I mentioned we would prefer to just have her eyes fixed. The plus side is that her very snagged tights were once again just gorgeous. She does "look" a little different though, but dd decided it would be ok and anther CS said tracking down the old doll was next to impossible. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'm so sad to hear about your Nellie doll's eyelash troubles--it just sounds awful.

I hope you won't think I'm strange for asking this, but would you be able to post a picture? I just got Nellie about a month ago and she has hair issues--one side is noticeably longer than the other in the back and I'm still contemplating asking AG to send out a new one. I hope that the eyelash problem doesn't develop too! How did it happen? i'm just wondering if laying Nellie down so her eyes close puts her at risk or not?

I really hope that AG can fix your DD's Nellie and that all goes well.

Both of my Sierra's (AGT#26)eyes do this as well one of Mariol's eyes. I does not bother me. I just grab the tip of the lash and pull it/them back out.

If that does not work for you, just take the doll, hold her upside down, and give her a gentle shake. The eyelash will come back out fully or at least enough for you to pull it the rest of the way out.

I had read the prior thread about using a thin application of Elmers Glue with a toothpick, but I just have not gotten around to it yet. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

Hi everyone: My dd said we should post pics of Nellie's problem, so will do that tomorrow. Meanwhile, here's a little more detail. I don't know what actually caused the problem. Dd is extremely gentle and would not be rough with her dolls, especially Nellie. I can just tell you one unhappy girl came down the stairs this morning in a crying panic about Nellie's eyelashes. The eyelashes themselves are simply not laying "out" of the eye slot as they should, they are slipping back in and so it looks like eyeliner instead of eyelashes, if you can imagine. My dh used tweezers to gently pull the end of them and they resumed their normal position easily, but if I touch them, they pop back in, and almost disappear. It is only the one eye. I noticed my dd calling "where's the tweezers" a couple of times after that today, so I think it must be recurring. Nellie is her "comfort" doll so I am very nervous about what the hospital will do with her. She came with other, uh, unique characteristics (bangs are not 100% cut perfectly, she has a wig "bump" on one side of her head, and I must say, the back of her hair could be a little fuller)so dd would certainly know immediately if they do a switcheroo. So, that's the way things are at for now. I would like to hear more about the glue solution. I would be so afraid to make it worse. Wouldn't it cause the eye to be heavier if I put glue on the eyelashes. Thanks. Kelli

I doubt there would be enough glue to make any difference in weight, since all you would need would be a tiny bit on the end of a toothpick. [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img]
